Our Journey to Good Medicine

My father, guided by principles of our American Indian heritage, taught me that good medicine goes beyond healing the body.  Good medicine is reciprocity.  Gifts exchanged for the betterment of all.  ZOMA, symbolizes these exchanges, specifically, as they take place in nature, weaving our web of life.  While there is no give without take, giving and taking need not achieve a singular purpose.  This is why we believe good medicine achieves two: healing the body and healing the planet.

When I first started working in the cannabis industry, I was both inspired by the healing potential of plant medicines and disheartened at the industry’s focus on needless consumption.  To me, this seemed hypocritical.  Why develop a medicine that demands dependence at the cost of continuous harm to our bodies and ecosystem?  It was easy to recognize that ‘good medicine’ was almost nowhere to be found.  So, when my grandmother began losing sleep and mobility due to arthritic pain, I began formulating my own remedies to ease her discomfort. Remarkably, her sleep deepened, her arthritis flared less, and most importantly, she got right back into the gardening, walking, and Tai-Chi that keeps her 84 years young; all without unpleasant side-effects.

Over the next couple of years I worked closely with two mentors, Dr. Jeff Skell and Dr. Victoria Skellcerf, to improve upon my original formulas and deepen my understanding of wellness.  As my knowledge grew, so too did my resolve to create a product that the Native within me could confidently recognize as ‘good medicine’.  Informed by the expertise of my teachers and honoring my father’s wisdom, I set out to create a remedy that restores vitality to the individual as well as the collective.  A gift of medicine in exchange for a gift of careful harvest.  Turns out, the remedy lies at the crossroads of good medicine and good business. Exactly where ZOMA found space to set up shop.

Where ancient wisdom intersects with modern knowledge, a path towards better living becomes clear.  Though this intersection can be hard to come by in this day and age, through ZOMA, we seek to make the path a little clearer for everyone.  By informing our decisions with science and adopting a beneficial exchange with nature, we can thrive together.  But we can’t do it alone.  So, when you decide that you too are ready to walk the path of better health for all, be sure to stop by. We’d love to share our gifts with you.

Our Core Values

The best approach to wellness is a mindful one that acknowledges the details of our lives.  This is why we partner with therapeutic professionals that inform an integrative approach to a better state of being.

Serving others is at our heart.  If ever there’s a concern, idea, or comment you’d like to share, we’d love to talk. We strive for honesty and integrity in every interaction.

We seek to meet needs before wants. We invite others to do the same by consuming with the impact of our choices in mind.

Nature has a voice. It’s all of us.  Spreading the wealth wide to restore nature’s gift is truly medicine for all.
